CORAR COMMENTS ON ICRP DRAFT REPORT: OCCUPATIONAL INTAKES OF RADIONUCLIDES PART 2

Page 12, lines 431-432, section 2.2.1, paragraph (10), “Information is also available from experimental studies of tritiated organic compounds…, in rats and in vitro.”

Information is also available from human occupational exposures to tritiated organic compounds.  In the attached publication (Smith et al., 1983) 3H-labeled compounds include acetic anhydride-3H, cyclopentanon-3H and methanol-3H.

Page 21, lines 777-781, section 2.2.3.1, paragraph (46), “There is a little information on the biokinetics of many of the tritiated organic compounds that may be encountered in the workplace.  Available information indicates that tritium retention in the human…body after intake of 3H-labeled substances may vary greatly from one substance to another.”

The attached publication indicates retention for different 3H-labeled substances that vary by a factor of 1,000.

Information is also available for human occupational exposures to H14CN in the attached publication.

Page 34, lines 1335-1340, section 3.2.1, paragraph (88),

Similar information is also available for human occupational exposures to methanol-14C in the attached publication.

Page 34, line 1335, section 3.2.1, paragraph (91), “other organic compounds”

Information is also available for human occupational exposures to acetic anhydride-14C in the attached publication.

Page 36, lines 1443-1445, section 3.2.1, paragraph (102), “Very rapid uptake of carbon…has been observed for several chemical forms.”

The attached publication shows this and also the short systemic retention of several 14C-compounds.
